This course will be an introduction to the profession and professional organization. Additional topics will include the history of nurse anesthesia, ethics and practice standards. Wellness issues that impact the practitioner, practice environment, and public will be examined.
The student will:
- Critically examine the purpose and function of professional organizations in anesthesia practice.
- Examine the profession of nurse anesthesia from a historical perspective.
- Integrate ethical principles and the AANA code of Ethics into anesthesia practice.
- Navigate resources in order to enhance compliance with AANA practice standards.
- Explore the ramifications of wellness on anesthesia practitioners, the public, and practice. An emphasis will be placed on substance use disorder, suicide prevention, and second victim syndrome.
Prerequisites
Admission to Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program.
